Condolence: I was very sorry to hear the news. George was a lively chap indeed. It was a pleasure to get his letters and chat to him on the phone, from far Flin Flon to Canberra.
I'll never forget what he said to me, after the house fire - "Well, worse things happen at Sea"! And soon enough, he was back in his own home again for a time, before facing the final journey.
It was a privilege to have known him, and to be able to retell some of his story of RAF service in Greece and Palestine with 211 Squadron, 70 years ago.

Condolence: We both send our condolences in the loss of your Dad Stephen, and our Uncle. We loved him and wished he could have lived closer. It would have been wonderful to see him again but we had such a nice visit on his last trip here. I know he remembered us because we spoke so often on the telephone. Condolence: We were saddened to hear that George had passed away. He was such a character and good friends with my dad, Bill Wingert. We had several occasions to play bridge with George and it was obviously one of his passions. He would always claim to never get any good cards and then ambush you when you tried to play declarer. I will miss the sparkle in his eye when he had a good round. My condolences to his family - I know he will be missed. Regrets on not being able to make it there for the service.
