Loretta Florence (Maher) Yauck
It is with great sadness that I announce the peaceful passing of my friend, partner, and wife on Tuesday December 13th, 2016 at the Flin Flon General Hospital.
Loretta was predeceased by her parents Michael & Ann Loretta Maher. She is survived by her husband of 58 years Ed, her five sons Randy Yauck, Chris Yauck (Theresa), Dan Yauck (Dani), Ken Yauck , Stephen Yauck (Angela), her six grandchildren, Angela Yauck Mower (Peter), Julia Lennox, Dominick Yauck, Nathan Yauck,
Alexandra (Lexa) Yauck, and Stephen Connor Andrianopoulos , along with 13 nieces and nephews. She was very proud of her family and never missed a special occasion without a card and phone call.
Born in Montreal on Sept 22, 1939 she attended Roman Catholic schools and a convent. She was first employed as secretary treasurer by a shipping company at the Port of Montreal from 1957 to 1959.
In June 1959 she arrived in Flin Flon with her husband Ed. She was a full time Mom until she began work on the 2 to 3 year project with her friends Val Hedman & Joyce Henderson which resulted in the Flin Flon Book, which was published in 1974. She remained very proud of their achievement.
In 1986 after completing Dry Cleaning courses at a school in Santa Anna, California she operated Quality Care Dry Cleaners at 101 Main St. She subsequently closed it in 1995. She enjoyed this work experience thoroughly and often spoke about it with great pride.
Loretta was an avid reader (hundred’s of books), cross word puzzle expert and a great participant in many hobbies & crafts – pottery, knitting, needle point, macramé, etc. etc.
along with gardening. She enjoyed many summers at the family cottage at Baker’s Narrows and enjoyed fishing particularly becoming an expert at it.
Following Ed’s retirement in 2004 she enjoyed winters at her home in Mesa, AZ. This was interrupted by some unfortunate surgery in August of 2009 which sadly resulted
in continuous pain and failing health to the moment of her death.
Her beautiful smile and her kind and cheerful disposition never left her in spite of her many travails. She was the ultimate expert at looking great. She is dearly missed by us all. We have so many memories to cherish.
Thank you to the staff at the E.R. & Third Floor at Flin Flon General Hospital, Dr. M. Alkana, Dr. Tom Williams and Dr. F. Eghboli for the great care she received in her final three days.
If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to the ER project, Northern Regional Health Authority , Box 340, Flin Flon, MB R8A1N2.
Funeral services for Loretta will be held on Tuesday July 4th, 2017 at St. Ann’s Roman
Catholic Church, 163 Centre Street Flin Flon, Manitoba at 1:00 P.M. with
Reverend Dr. Rebecca Graham officiating.
Interment to follow at East Hillside Cemetery.
